Help with oil escape please (with photos)

Post by alphabetter » Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:53 pm

Hi all,

After 2 years of faithful service my Bongo has started oozing oil out of the engine. There is an area of fresh black oil on the side of the block on the drivers side near the big pipe on the front.

No sign of any contamination of the engine oil or coolant. No obvious problems with the engine running.

Here are some not very good photos. You can just make out the oil in the back of them. The pipe on the right of the photos is the big pipe to the radiator. The bolt on the second photo is the highest point of the oil stain and might be the source.

Any suggestions???

Looks like it could be the cam cover gasket

Rocker box gasket ???

hard to tell from pic's
will look at mine first chance
"I am off out now" see if I can
get a better idea when I can look at mine
If it is the rocker box or I suppose
on a Bongo it would be called a cam box
nipping it down may stop the leak.

Thanks. I think its too low for that. Here is a pic of the whole engine with an arrow showing where the oil patch starts. You can see the cam cover at the top and all looks clean. The bolt just above the oil is one that secures the inlet manifold.

I now wander if the oil coming in from the side. Just to the right is the cover for the timing belts etc.

Hi
mine has started to leek there as well i think it's leaking from the inlet manifold. the stuff leaking from mine is very black and sticky so think it's gunk from EGR seeping out. Well i hope it is any way  the van runs as well as always and not not est any loss of oil (just returned from France 3000K and no oil loss) Fingers crossed it's not terminal just keeping an eye on it to see if it gets worse. :)

This is very common and as long as the dipstick level does not drop do not worry. It is a silicone seal that "just weeps" no worries
