Bad luck Max,
but as Kirsty says, at least you now know what the problem is.
Re: Max needs a new Head Gloom
Used to be the case you could get heads repaired - welding up between the valve seats wasn't uncommon - is that an option?

Re: Max needs a new Head Gloom
I have welded a Golf head once but that was out side the combustion chamber, don't think I would trust it inside. It also means stripping the head re-seating the valves, having it skimmed, pressure tested and no guarantee as I welded itdave_aber wrote:Used to be the case you could get heads repaired - welding up between the valve seats wasn't uncommon - is that an option?
I am leaning towards the club shop as you get one year guarantee and all new gaskets, bolts etc just got to bite the old bullet and give them a call

Bad news mate, sorry. The club shop C/H's are supposed to be spot on, they are discounted via the club shop than if you bought them directly from the supplier too...
The valves on cylinder 2&4 appear closer, probably cos those valves are open at that position of stroke.
Isn't that the "usual" place that cracks appear?

Re: Max needs a new Head Gloom
Best of luck. Thanks for showing us all your crack
before you get on with it ....make a brew, take a flask and some hot water, an insulated mug and a few of god's own fast food delights (the pot noodle) and a couple of hand warmers....and a blanket. Why dont you try sitting a tin next to the van...whistle while you work, and you never know a few kind passers by may contribute to your new head with a donation. Keep yer pecker up, it will soon be good as new

Nice one dunslair
I just had a thought phoned Ian today to order the new head and if his deliveries are like his emails I will have 11 heads arriving this week
