Hissing from Brake pedal

Post by TrickeyDicky » Sun May 02, 2010 8:34 pm

Hi,

Had MOT done and new pads fitted Saturday and Bongo returned happily. Mrs TD takes the van out and notices the Bongo has developed a hissing. I returned home stuck head under seats ..all ok... put seats down and notice hissing coming from in/around break pedal. After depressing the pedal a few times the hissing goes away?!? Is this dangerous to drive?? as brakes still seem to be working ok. Have done a search on the Fury but causes were varying.. :?:

Any assistance would be gratefully received. :!: :D

Cheers :D

Could be the brake servo leaking.
When you press the brake pedal a few times, you will empty the servo.
Start engine again and it will fill up again.(this is the easiest way to describe how it works)
Might just be the rubber pipe going to the servo is loose, if this is the system that Bongos use.

you say you have had the pads changed, did you have the brake fluid changed,or was the system bled, if so someone may have used a preasure bleed/fill system on it, maybe this has caused your issues???

This is quite a common fault on Volvo S60/V70 where the diaphragm starts to perish so the seal is no longer airtight. To change one of these costs over £500 as the engine has to be lowered to gain access to it. On a Bongo it would be a much simpler just & a decent used one can be picked up for under £60:

Probably worth getting it back to the garage that did the work to see what they suggest.

Thanks NB, I am not sure what they did as I wasnt present at the time, but can this cause what Simon has suggested below?

a mate of mine has a 54 plate hyundi tuscan, its had 2 g/boxes,3 clutches, and new master cylinder, all done under standard hyundi warranty, must have cost hyundi a fortune!!
the problem turned out eventually be the pressure bleed system they were using,it was blowing/rolling seals in the brake/clutch system.
used my vacuum system on it,his comment was it has never been this good.

just something to think about really.
