Reversing Camera

Looking to fit a reversing camera and was wondering where the best mounting position was (yes I know at the rear ) and where I could gain access for the wiring into the vehicle I've read previous posts as to where I run the cables once in the vehicle so any help would be very much appreciated. Any pictures would be a bonus

You want it up high so that you can look down on the view, otherwise its very difficult to make out the distance. Obvious place is the High mount brake light!

Then if you remove one bolt and replace it with a length of threaded rod you can put a nut back on to hold the light and screw the camera on to the bottom of the thread. A hole with rubber sealing grommet in the middle and your then into the end of the wiring loom and can pull your cables back into the the rest of the van using the same path. Just take care going thru the rubber sleeve into the main body of the vehicle.

Hi Duncan, as you know I fitted mine on the inside under my high level brake light on the tailgate and picked up a feed from the live side of my inside light,off the LB. the reason I put it on the inside was so the scrotes could`nt nick it. and I have a seperate monitor which is switched from a new switch that I mounted in a spare way on the dash. I have posted in the past. Colin

Thanks Colin, when I looked through previous post's missed your's . Nice neat fit, did you run your cable along the inside of the driver side trim How clear is your picture on your monitor (look's good in the picture) This is looking like the way I may also go

winter pics. Yes thats where I ran the cable didn`t even have to take the trim off just eased it out and tucked it in the only part I took off was the trim on the door pillar, the picture on the monitor is perfect , the only down side is the camera you gets what you pay for you need a very low lux model for night vision

Just been outside to look and unlike your's Colin my high level brake light is outside the vehicle so my mounting point wouldn't work So back to the drawing board.

Having seen those views on the reversing cameras, what do you think they'd be like for an OVERTAKING camera...would either of those be suitable in terms of forward vision....if so, what models do you have, and what screen....Normally, I ask Tony, but if I have a Bulgarian passenger, they overtake anywhere, any time, and with a car coming in the other direction dangerously close ....so I'd like a little independence....

Hi yes very suitable, plus there are two inputs so presumably you can have two cameras and select them with the remote control, I presume you are driving on the right, I got mine from eBay theres loads of them available, this is my one.

Are you talking about your spoiler lights, I think thats because yours is an AFT mine started off as a tintop, and did not have a spoiler untill I fitted one. so my high level brake lights were inside.

Just been outside to look and unlike your's Colin my high level brake light is outside the vehicle so my mounting point wouldn't work So back to the drawing board.

Hi Helen, I think there was some stuff on the Russian Bongo owners site, with video showing a camera being used to give a forward view to the driver, it looked very effective, and probably more reliable than a Bulgarian passenger!

Thanks....just been outside for a look at the Bongo...Yes...EXACTLY what I was looking for...I'll order that exact model on Tuesday...I've seen that on the Russian site, and it's mandatory for a RHD vehicle there...good idea , in fact, but I haven't fitted one yet...That is one "tuit" that I WILL now get round to!

Yes....I have to admit, that although Tony usually advises on overtaking, it is still a bit lethal trying....and I also have some extraordinarily loud horns which I sound on corners, as It's very common to come to a blind corner and find a car or truck coming towards you on your side of the road...they are either mentally ill-equipped to drive, or suicidal, but maybe they just like gambling ...funnily enough, It would scare me witless if that had happened in England, but you just get used to it here!!!!

Pah, try China, where everything uses the roads whatever way they choose, as happened once to the driver who used to collect me at the airport, he was in the fast lane going over a motorway bridge like the Severn one, over the crest came a huge crane, towards him in his lane!

But, then I saw a fire engine with blue lights and siren on, sitting waiting at traffic lights , life is cheap there!
