Oh, yes...there are worse places than here....my daughter lived in China for a while...and we have rellies and friends in far-flung places....I just find it strange , here, how safety doesn't seem to exist....The wiring in most houses is farcical...indoor switches outside...IN THE PATH OF RAIN ...no handrails by a sheer drop...12 year old kids driving cars to the shop to buy fags....not abnormal in many countries...but it's supposed to be in EUROPE ....oh, and the rage in Sofia amongst the young, is to race through red traffic lights at speeds of up to 120 KPH to see whether or not they hit anyone....and heavy bets change hands!!!!!

Overtaking cameras - I would suggest that you need as big a display screen as possible, as things are going to be happening much faster than when reversing!
You then need to select carefully the lens on the camera to get the right field of view, for reversing cameras you go for as wide a FoV as possible, but for overtaking you want just the right amount to see around the vehicle in front and around any possible bend in the road. Most cameras can have the lens changed no problem.
I have a "Barrier" camera fitted for forward vision, this has a pretty wide FoV about 90º-100º as I recall as it was a spare for reversing;



I would guess that a 60º FoV would be of the right order, but that's a guess it might be worth while doing some geometry to check that out. A good source I have used in the past is Henrys in London, they do all sorts of cameras and lenses

Thanks, Geoff...I have looked at the one Colin has...they don't post here anyway, but I had wondered about FOV...and, funnily enough, I have Henry's on my favourites ...I hear what you say on the screen size, and I agree with what you say, as I've been looking at some of the radios here with the smaller screens....pretty useless for forward vision and quick decision...i have been looking at the possibility of a flip-down, but to mount it , it would be in the way in the cab, and mounted on the dash is just a target for thieves...plenty of those here!!...So....the search goes on...I'll have a peek at Henry's

Spent most of the afternoon with very little success, having just scoured the net for the last hour or so it appears there's a wire from the rear of the stereo that needs to be connected to REVERSE , can anyone point me in the right direction of a possible place for this connection, fuse, switch etc

It should be on the ISO A-3 pin as standard if your using a converter plug.

It goes to +12v when reverse gear is selected.

Hi, if it would be of any help I would gladly take my camera off and aim it forward to give you a view of what you would see on the monitor not forgetting the monitor is a 10" screen and it has a good wide angle. also re; delivery, I would gladly purchase the eBay item and forward it to you if you want, only to happy to be of assistance to fellow bongoists. Thanks , Colin..I'd certainly like to see what view is possible!...Even though that guy doesn't send here, I tend not to order from outside Europe, as the Customs here are notorious, and where I live is so primitive,they wouldn't know how to charge for import... ....so, yes, I may take you up on your kind offer....Thanks

if its not too late ,and any use, i bought mine from reversingcamerasuk.com , they have a fairly good rage of types, including twin camera units , one long range and one short range, in the same unit ,which you can adjust independantly, to give "close up " to see what you are backing into, and " long range " to see whats down the motorway, complete with night vision.
and many screens to match, mines a 7"
they will also "mix and match " to your liking, kits include various length cables
