HELP! Sliding side door will not unlock and open

Post by JamesC » Fri Feb 12, 2010 6:55 pm

My battery went flat and the automatic central locking stopped working. Whilst the battery was still flat, I opened and closed the doors with my key, instead of the remote. I heard the side door lock bolts lock into place, very slowely, using the remaining juice in the battery. My van was left over night and started again the next day using jump heads.

The problem is that everything now works again, including the central locking, apart from the fact that the sliding side door remains locked shut. Does anyone know what I can do to unlock the door, apart from force it? . . . .even that will be difficult, given the size of the door bolts.

There is a top tip to sort this, the mechanism has jammed.

Do not take the door card off etc and poke about until you try this:

Bang the inner side of the door hard with the flat of your hand, do it about a third of the way up. It has to be quite hard. Don't worry as although it might hurt your hand it won't damage the door card.

Good luck

I had the same problem when my Autonator was replaced, was told by the garage it was due to the door linkage bit wearing away they filed it down and now works perfectly but may not last forever so may need to replace the linkage at sometime, hope this may be of help to you, Happy Bongoin!
