Air con failure, pointers please

Post by mp3oplecarrier » Mon Jul 12, 2010 7:44 pm

Hi, my Bongo has suddenly lost all air-con and has gone from being a refuge in the sunshine to being an oven... I think it is something catastrophic either mechanical, plumbing or electrical that ha stopped it rather than gas pressure being low so can anybody give me some pointers on where to start looking?

I have manual aircon controls and the green light comes on as usual when you press it and turn the blower control, but only warm air comes out..... :(

Hoping someone can help!

sounds like it needs a regas...... quick check to see if the compressor is running.... remove the brown connector off of the drier bottle (can shaped jobby next to air con rad) and connect accross with some wire.......turn Ign key on....push fan button and the fans should run....if that works......regas....

Rule of thumb is that vehicles with Aircon lose 10% R134a per annum.....even if they are being used....

Sudden change like that is usually down to damage somewhere. Unfortunately, the aircon radiator is unprotected and may be damaged by stone chips :(

FAQ may be some help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=28727
Could it just be the gas has just leaked enough to drop below the pressure switch point? Has to be a cut off somewhere?

Don't know about Bongo system, but the aircon is usually less efficient for quite a while before the pressure drops enough to let the switch cut in. If he had a nice refuge in the hot weather, it doesn't sound as if it was inefficient at that time :( - fingers crossed though [-o<

For future reference, the mechanic attempting to fit a new exhaust manifold gasket today dropped a nut, and while fumbling round the undertray came up with two broken belts, the aircon and one of the others.....

That'll be the problem then!

My AC failed suddenly last weekend, turned out to be just a broken compressor belt. The system has stacks of pressure in it.
