I'm no gearbox expert whatsoever, but just had a rummage on lushprojects
What about the lock up control valve & lock up sleeve, parts 21-283 & 21-241 on this one - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 02.html#69

Or the inhibitor switch 19-444 here - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 1of03.html
Also crops up again here - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... o=.html#17

Obviously you'd have to check the drawings are the right year/model/engine for yours & it might be a load of rubbish, but worth an hour or two's investigation?

Or check out the wiring diagrams - http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/bwmanualp.htm?1997/Page_90

Just looking in the manual, seems there's three different autoboxes, the J5-DE, the WL-T (2WD) & the WL-T(4WD), any idea which one it is that has this problem? Can't find anything that points at the temp sensor (if there is one?)
Over my head sorry, but it is a four wheel drive Bongo. I will make a list of these possibilities and those in the other post and raise them with the new transmission guy. [-o<

If you do get a resolution to this, try & get as much detail out of them as possible as to what it was & get the old parts so you can tell/show others that may have the same issues :D
