Hi guys,
Hoping to pick your brains on something.
Recently I've felt my car has had less power at lower revs and also noticed the fuel economy hasn't been so good. Thought it maybe this hot weather but couldn't recall much change in past years.
Anyway, noticed today that my aftermarket back box has a big hole in it on the pipe just before the backbox. Rusted out.
Am I right in thinking this will both change the back pressure and also potentially throw out the mixture? The car seems to have much less power up to about 2200 RPM then without changing the throttle position it will suddenly run better and pick up well.
Also looking at lushprojects, I notice the part number for the backbox is the same for the 2 petrol engines and the diesel. I am presuming this part is the same then which helps me source a replacement quickly?
Thanks in advance.
Andy

Re: V6 Petrol Questions on Exhaust
Hi Andy,
Hope you are well, and sorry to hear your V6 is a bit poorly.
I've always been taught (and experienced) that a problem with the exhaust system has a significant effect on performance/economy so I reckon that's the case with your car.
What I'm not sure about is the compatability of the 2 litre and diesel back box with the V6 following a recent topic on here. Maybe start to think about going stainless. MIJ Performance in Walsall do off the shelf components for the Bongo and could get it couriered out to you.
Another option, as I recently went totally stainless, I have my old (low mileage, good condition) V6 back box available to you FOC if you can organise to get it from me in Leicestershire.
Best regards
Roger

I agree Izzy. Really pleased I made the investment and had a full system from manifold to tail-pipe.
Not only is the sound coming out of the sexy twin tailpipes really awesome
, but 10 extra BHP is claimed which is really useful for performance and economy, especially when towing my caravan

Re: V6 Petrol Questions on Exhaust
Hi guys,
Thankyou for your support and kind offers. I have had a new tailpipe fitted by Discount trucks this morning as I was afraid the old one could fall off and cause damage. The part number in lushprojects for all bongo types is the same so I'm presuming the tailpipe is the same.
Car runs tons better and is so much quieter which is a relief. The old one was an aftermarket big bore boy racer type that was quite noisy, too noisy in fact as with at least a 2 inch hole in it you didn't realise it had gone !!
I will now be looking at a stainless one cat backwards as the middle section is showing signs that it too will need replacing in the next few months.
In the interim the mild steel one will do fine and at least the car runs alot better and I know nothing should be falling off !!!
Thanks again. Any ideas on the price range for a good quality stainless exhaust, and also can they post it out?
Regards
Andy

H Andy,
Glad you got sorted out for now.
Have a look at the link below, very pleased with the job they did on my Bongo. I think they said they do jig built off the shelf units and can post/courier out.
