Likely to be a fuel or glowplug problem. Try hanging on for a few seconds after the glowplug light goes out before cranking it over. If that helps, you probably need new plugs.
Are there any other symptoms - is it showing any other signs once up & running . . . . ?
Don't lose heart just think of the positive reasons you bought your Bongo in the first place. This current issue sounds like glow plugs which is not a major deal.flipflop wrote:

Depends how handy you are. It's not difficult, especially if you unbolt the engine cover, and any garage should be able to do it.flipflop wrote:Aye we are lol
Is it a DIY job or best done at the garage? and can any garage do it?
Tried this yet?mister munkey wrote: Try hanging on for a few seconds after the glowplug light goes out before cranking it over.
Don't give up, remember your purposes of buying it and when it's sorted out you'll be smiling again. I'm not sure what the outcome of ours was, but I'll see if I can find out for you.flipflop wrote:I don't suppose you found out or could find out what it was?
No bought it privately![]()
yeh solenoid has been done then the manifold studs and gasket
smokes, doesn't start properly, smells of oils in and out
just about had enough, really regretting buying it now
Sorry to see that you are having problems it maybe something simple. If you PM me your landline number I may be able to help or point you in a couple of directions, diagnosis is sometimes easier on a one to one with the patient.flipflop wrote:cheers that would be cool
I do like the van , but becomes difficult to love when its having all these problems and everytime we plan to go away it
ends up in the garage!! More than anything though its the money
