Lumpy !!!!

Post by the guvnor » Mon Sep 27, 2010 11:34 am

hi guys

Well now the colder weather is upon us my bongo is running crap at start up :(

All is well after 5 mins but as she starts she is VERY lumpy for a few mins and lets out some white smoke.

Any ideas or should i not worry about it ?

Cheers

initial diagnosis with your symptoms being lumpy on cold starts....... sounds to me like Glow plug or plugs not working..... now if your a Veg user....could be the percentage Diesel/Veg needs adjusting....

If you like me and suspect say a glow plug....change the lot....that's what I do with anything on the Bongo....at least it is preventative maintenance not reactive, which is what the Japs do....... For example if a bush is worn on the roll bar.....change all the components....that kind of thing, so for me if a glow plug fails....I change 'em all..... a) they are all the same age & b) you know when they were changed and what parts you used.....

Could be worn injector(s) causing poor atomisation.

Glow plugs and white smoke is just condensation.

Have exactly the same problem, lumpy with white smoke for the first 5 mins, but I fitted all new glow plugs 3 months ago!
Is it possible that it could be a fuel supply problem? Could it be the fuel pump injector 'O' ring seals? Just put my hand underneath the fuel pump and there is a slight leak, so air being sucked in could be the cause. Does your fuel injector pump also have a slight leak?

Check the earth on the glow plug relay which is under the bonnet, top left corner under a plastic cover.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yea, my thoughts were glow plugs also but i will check the earth first(thanks for that) as for a leak on fuel pump, nope mine is fine.

So, plugs first then hope all is well ! If not injectors should be next stop !!

Thanks again =D>
