where are the brake lights?

Post by Sandy » Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:49 pm

OK - I know that sounds a bit dim, but my brake lights have both stopped working. Don't know if it's a fuse or spent bulbs, but when I went to have a look at the bulbs just now, I realised that I'm not sure where they are. Are they in the cluster incorporated in the rear door, or the one to the outside of that in the main body of the van. I'm astonished that my owner's manual says absolutely nothing about lights and bulbs, and the Factsheet on bulb changing is very cryptic to say the least.

Thanks guys. The upper brake light on the spoiler is working fine. I'll check the fuse tomorrow, then try the bulbs.

Be gentle with me, Supreme Beings. I am confused. I have removed the light cluster at the rear. It contains three bulbs (side light, reversing light and indicator) all of which are working fine.
So . .um . . where is the brake light bulb?

Its both a 21W and a 5W lamp click the codes by the lamp in the image and it will give you the detail in the list.

It should look a little like this in side the glass...

If you notice it has two filaments inside.. As Geoff said the one bulb does the same job... the filament for the side/tail light works.. But the brake filament in the same bulb don't!

Have you had a tow bar fitted or any electrical work round the back done recently?

Yup - you were all spot on. I have now replaced both bulbs and everything is hunky-dory. And the ABS warning light has gone out.

Many thanks. :D
