Fitted new radio/cd player

Post by tharg » Wed Jan 19, 2011 7:46 pm

Hello kind people, I have read the factsheets about fitting a new radio in place of the old japanese original and felt confident that all would go well, I bought the PC2-10-4 adaptor as suggested and got a nice new Sony radio/cd player. I removed the old player as per instructions on factsheet, no problem, I then connected up all the new connectors from the new player through the adaptor into the old bongo connectors, everything fitted as described, but then, I'm left with all these spare wires which I don't know what to do with. Firstly coming from a black box connected to the aerial cable I have a thin black wire, what's it for? Then on the PC2-10-4 I have a black wire with a loop connector? Coming from the battery area I have a thicker black/red wire which Stuart Chambers refers to in the factsheet as the earth wire, where do I connect this to? And finally on the new player itself I have a blue/white wire with a label on it which reads, AMP REM MAX 0.3A, and has a female connector on the end. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

The blue white wire with REM on it sounds like the remore wire. That is only required if you're connecting the new radio to an amplifier. Have you switched the unit on yet?

I forgot to mention, #-o Just tape the remote wire up if you aren't connecting the stereo to an amp. :D

It sounds like the thin wire comming from the ariel is possibly to do with a band expander that may have been fitted to allow the original radio to pick up more uk chanels - this may have another adaptor that the original ariel plug is connected to.

The PC2 10 -4 that you have bought has an earth on it. You could connect this to the vehicle body somewhere under the dash, but there is usually a black (could be black /red ?) wire with a black push on female spade connector that goes on the original stereo. I just put a male spade on the end of the PC2 10-4 earth, and connect to this.

Hope this helps a bit....but sounds confusing :? .

Madmile this sounds good, the black/red thicker cable coming from the battery area of the Bongo has a spade on it which went into the back of the old radio, I will do what you suggest and connect the spare cable from the PS2-10-4 to this cable and see how it goes. Let you know how I get on.
