Post by tezzer22 » Sat Jul 30, 2011 3:40 pm

hi guys , i need a bit of help diagnosing a problem with my front heater fan , i can hear it turning but its only very slow with very little air coming out also when i turn the switch it does alter the fan speed , so the question is is it the switch the fan itself or is there something else in between i don't know about

Hi tezzer22,

It might be worthwhile checking the linkages on the heater box between the drivers and passengers footwell. These can become detatched at times.

Cheers....

Don't forget to unblock the drain hole below the windscreen, centre of the channel.

If blocked rainwater runs straight into the heater motor.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

No it doesn't - urban myth, there's no way that I can see that water can get in from there, have a look at all the lips etc on the plastic ducting  Plus if you think about it, when it's raining, that whole windscreen draining through that little hole? I don't think so  Any moisture that gets in to the heater motor IMO gets in from the front, ie scooped in with the air - there's nowt to stop it, along with any bits of crud that block up the drain hole under the heater motor in the plastic casing. On the later bongos the hole in the bottom of the plastic motor casing is made about 10mm diameter to allow better drainage here & when i do a heater motor, I open that hole up if it's too small.

I still poke a stick down the hole, just in case.

Good idea to keep it clear, but it shouldn't be disastrous if it's not :D
