How about this one Brian? The start is only 4 or 5 miles down the road from the campsite. There are shorter walks available in the same area if the weather is bad or you are short of puff. Never been there myself yet but it has been on my to do list for quite a while. I bought the 1:25000 explorer map of the area some time ago.

For a longish walk on the Pentlands, get someone to drop you off in Carlops (a few miles down the road towards Biggar) and walk back to the Flotterstone Inn. Lovely walk, taking in 5 peaks, lots of up and down. Alternatively, access from the ski slope up to Allermuir is short and sharp, but flatish on top. Third option I'd suggest is round trip from Flotterstone, along to Scald Law (possibly the two Kips on the end) and then back along the reservoir. First ascent up Turnhouse Hill is a slog, but the rest is uppity-poppity-down.

Just got our confirmation letter for the bash and it mentions The Real Mary King's Close. We have been to this attraction and can recommend it. Further information is on their website at:

I'm in Edinburgh for the day on the 16th so I will try and remember to pick up some attraction leaflets and bus timetables. don't even think of going into the city centre in your Bongo unless you know your way around. Parking in Edinburgh is both a nightmare and very expensive.

If you want to see the Giant Pandas at Edinburgh Zoo then try your luck here. I checked the on line booking system and they still have a few slots available for Saturday 21st July at the moment.

PS: Edinburgh Zoo is built on one of Edinburgh's seven hills. When you arrive inside it is advisible to get the free tractor bus to the top of the hill and walk downwards rather than walk up the hill like I did. Phew! it is steep.

Just got confirmation letter for the bash and it looks like I have the least distance to travel. That probably means that I will arrive last. Not up for long walks in the Pentlands but weather permitting plan a 5 mile walk with the dog in the adjacent parkland.. My Wife, Polly, tells me that she will be crocheting 'Granny Squares'.
I have some bits & pieces for sale and also some wants. I will mention them here and also put them in the 'Stuff Wanted', and 'Small Ads'. For sale a couple of drive away awnings. A 'Royal traveller tunnel' and an 'Outdoor revolution Movelite square. Looking for a steel wheel for use as a spare and the small pan support for a 'Domestic cramer' gas hob (160mm widest point to widest point)
The rear seating/bed we have at present is not acceptable so I am looking for ideas to replace it. If you see a Septuagenarian admiring your 'rear end' it will just be me looking for inspiration.
Looking forward to only our second camping trip out with the Bongo.

I would be calingl the campsite and seeing if it's flooded or not. I'm located just a few miles from the site and there is major flooding almost everywhere. It's been no stop all day today and very very heavy rain.

Taking your Bongo in to Edinburgh and not knowing the city is MADNESS!!!!! The city has just closed York Place and other major streets around the city centre to push on with the TRAM nightmare

Take the bus, or drive to Cameron Toll Shopping centre and park and get the bus the other mile or so.

I would be amazed if the campsite does not have flooding problems.

If you don't know your way around Edinburgh it would really be best to leave your Bongo on the campsite and use the bus if you want to do the usual tourist stuff. A flat fare system is used on Lothian buses, so it does not matter where you get on the bus as it will cost the same for a day ticket or a single journey ticket. You can get more buses from Cameron Toll shoping centre though.

I've been working just north of Edinburgh the last couple of days. Yesterday it rained all day but today so far it has been dry and the sun is out
