Excess engine oil
Hi, I'm a complete novice when it comes to engines etc, I've had my Bongo for 4 months and finally looked at the engine to check the oil.,I found a fair bit of oil on the engine (only on the passenger side), is this something to worry about? It looks like it's coming from the engine?

Re: Excess engine oil
Not uncommon, they can be quite oily engines. It's probably leaking from the rocker cover (for as much as I can tell from the pic, on my small phone). I gunked mine clean and tightened the bolts just a little in the area it seemed to be coming from. No problems since.

Re: Excess engine oil
it looks like the rocker cover gasket.
wants doin
.
the bolts go through a spacer tube through the gasket, this hardens over time.
the fury shop sells a good replacement with new tubes/gasket, or you can cheat----grind a few mm off the old tubes and refit.

Cheers for the replies.
Is it a big problem and is it something that I need to get sorted asap?
It's still ok to drive?

Shouldn't be. I go to Adrian at Japan Direct in Bury 0161 763 3003. He is excellent with Bongos, good on price, and may get a gasket (if it needs one) cheaper than the Bongo Shop. And you can enjoy Bury Market while he does the job.hopey wrote:cheers I'll try and find a bongo specialist close to me.

Re: Excess engine oil
may need to check out jaylees ac compressor question thread too, as yours has a bolt through on the alternator adjuster.

Re: Excess engine oil
Be careful then, you don't want to over tighten the bolts and crack the rocker cover. Just a gentle tighten. . If in doubt, contact Adrianhopey wrote:OK will give it a go, I'm not famed for my DIY skillsfrancophile1947 wrote:Do as mikeonb4c says first - takes a few minutes and it's freehopey wrote:cheers I'll try and find a bongo specialist close to me.

in the picture you posted of your bongo engine i notice that your alternator belt adjuster is missing, it has been replaced by a nut and bolt.
Re: Excess engine oil
What Ady means is you have this missing from your alternator assembly...hopey wrote:Northern Bongolow wrote:may need to check out jaylees ac compressor question thread too, as yours has a bolt through on the alternator adjuster.
