With all due respect Mike, you are not the average non technical Bongo owner. But I agree that a temperature alarm is in some ways more universally useful, if you know how to set it up, monitor and interpret it. But your Mason alarm only went off once overheating had started. Out of interest, what warning pattern would you expect to see as coolant level drops due to a pinhole leak in a hose, or maybe poor circulation due to blocked rad, failing water pump etc?
