Squeak from rear wheel when reversing and turning
When I reverse off the drive and turn, there is a squeak from the driver side rear wheel area.
Difficult to know where exactly as i'm behind the wheel and the engine is being noisy, and lots of beeping going on.
What should I look for/at?

No possibility it could be linked to the constant velocity joints, given yours is 4WD? I've read that the first symptom is a noise when turning hard at low speed, though I don't think its a squeak as much as a clicking, and not especially when reversing. But still, something to put alongside brakes as a possible?TheStinkyHippy wrote:When I reverse off the drive and turn, there is a squeak from the driver side rear wheel area.

I have the same type of problem on my V6, a kind of groaning like brake shoes hanging on in reverse only? Maybe its all the mud of the site roads I am on daily. will have to wait and see when I get back but will watch this thread with interest.

Hi
Have you checked to see if it's an LSD at the back...I get an occasional squeak on my Jeep, as it has LSD
Cheers

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Re: Squeak from rear wheel when reversing and turning
Ok. Pretty sure its not the brakes.
Jacked up the back and when hand turning nearside rear it sometimes squeaks.
Removed wheel, pads and disc, handbrake was a little sticky and it even squeaked when the drum wasn't attached..

So, next. Diff oil... never done or checked that.

That is my rear diff..
Is nut 1 the fill hole?
Is nut 2 the drain hole?
To check the level do you remove nut 1 and the level should be up to the opening?
Not sure if I have LSD or not.
When I turn the rear wheel by hand, the opposite side turns the other direction.
Thanks for help.

Re: Squeak from rear wheel when reversing and turning
LSDs are usually identified by a yellow paint splodge and, if you turn one of the rear wheels, the other turns in the same direction (so I've read)
Looks like yours is not a LSD

thats right, lsd fitted the wheel if spun hard should go the same way. fill up to the level of plug number 1.
refit the wheel for extra leverage, jack up, and try to tip the wheel bearing with a pry bar, rotate a little then try again, could be wheel bearing.

Re: Squeak from rear wheel when reversing and turning
So, rear diff oil changed. The drain and fill plug were a bu**er to get off, but eventually did.
For reference the fill plug is a 23mm socket, and the drain is 24mm socket.
Refilled with around 1.6lt of SAE90 oil. (I'll do the front next weekend)
Here is what came out;

Lets see if that makes a difference.. if not I will look at the CV joints... any pointers to what they are (sorry Northern I didn't understand your post)
