Central locking

Post by red999doc » Sat Oct 17, 2015 10:33 pm

Hi, just bought a 2000 Bongo and have 2 x keys but no fob for central locking. is this a common problem and does anyone know where I should be looking to get a fob from please? The Bongo locks fine so I am not even sure what the benefit would be except that it is hands free if carrying things? :?:

Thanks.

They don't all have remote central locking although it is more common on the later models. To check, you need to remove the drivers door panel and look for the control box with Naldec stamped on it. If it had remote locking it would have a solenoid on the drivers door whereas if it's just key-operated central locking it will just have a switch. You can get aftermarket kits from a little as £10 although you have to question just how secure they are as some use same frequency and coding as garage door openers.

As above. The NALDEC unit is location underneath the drivers window switches and has a wire aerial taped along the inside of the door card too. You will need to take the door card off to find it but that is easy.

Rather than getting the very cheap kit, I got an alarm instead this gives the added benefit of the alarm itself but also the remotes featured rolling codes and appeared to be more secure than the basic ones.

I found the remote to be very useful. When we use the Bongo for work (it is a commuter as well - normally for my wife) we both have things to put in the back. The door to get to the kids or the area we put our bags is on the passenger side so normally we would have to get out the drivers door, go round to the passenger side, unload, go back to the drivers side, lock the door then set off. For me I'd normally have arm fulls of paperwork before going back to the drivers side. It was a pain!

So much easier with the remote.
