I've had faulty parts from main dealers.

Me too it does happen every now and again, but with ECP it just happens far too often. That's personal experience & talking to others in the trade. Their own brand RTX starters & alternators are shockingly bad, they are a fraction of the price of branded ones for a reason.

I'm not sure I would use them for electrical stuff anyway, but their brake bits were good so far as I (and more importantly the MOT tester) could tell.

A mate of mine (a very good mechanic) got a new brake switch for an EPC light on his daughters polo, fairly common problem, after trying 3 brake switches from ECP he started to doubt his diagnosis & thought he was out of his depth so put it into a local VW specialist, the garage phoned him an hour later to say that's it all sorted, new genuine switch fitted. He got three yes three faulty parts in a row.

Yes you are correct ..even Volkswagen can use duff parts.

If we had a brake pad with no friction material at all it would still pass the efficiency test on the rolling road, once out on the road performance would possibly deteriorate due to heat etc, my point being, the MOT only really tests the pads at a slow speed so won't show up poor quality pads.
I gave Euro a fair crack of the whip when they opened locally only to be disappointed, I used them again earlier this year as only they had the part in, it was a EGR valve, the plastic body was so poorly moulded the metal part fitted the hole but the plastic part was so far off centre that you couldn't get the nuts on the studs, I had murder with them as they wouldn't refund as I had tried to fit it, I pointed out that the only way to find it was wrong was to fit it, after a big stand up and asking them to look at my account history of poor quality parts they got me another proper branded one that fitted first time, but if I was a garage charging for work I would have lost money on the job.
If you insist on using them just be certain you are buying recognised brands not brands they have made up that only they sell.
I have had a few parts with no manufacturers details at all, so if it failed how would you stand for liability?
One of my mates has just stopped using them as he has three duff batteries in the same week all different sizes so three jobs he lost money on all down to poor quality.
I know many people will disagree as I can only base my findings on my experiance, but I would steer clear.
Now back on point hows your Bongo?

At least the VW part lasted 6 or 7 years, a bit different to having 3 faulty ones straight out the box that never worked at all. :?

Let me guess... it was Lion branded batteries ?

The made a massive difference in my Discovery, even towing heavy loads it stops on a sixpence
Thanks very much for your reply, can you give me a link or name of your supplier of Ferodo pads that I can contact for bongo parts.

Thanks.
