Lack of Power

Post by Big E » Tue Feb 06, 2007 10:07 pm

My Bongo is currently suffering from a severe lack of power. Going up hill on motorways I am struggling to get 35 mph and being overtaken by everybody. It is not overheating and the hold light is n ot flashing. Can anyone please help?

Excuse my ignorance but what RPM is your tacho showing i.e. is it a lack of power or your automatic gearbox slipping into a low gear

Sounds like either air or fuel starvation - have you replaced the filters?
There is also a small strainer under the banjo connection to your fuel pump which may need cleaning.

Hope so - nice and easy solution. Perhaps I can get more than 35mph up those motorway inclines and not be overtaken by caravans

The strainer had a big hole in, so getting the fuel pump flushed out.

Wait and see if that cures it.

I saw a fuel injection pump on Ebay today if you need one.

Cheers for that. Hopefully it won't need replacing

Hi vanmanerik
If I remember it correctly, that Ebay pump doesn't look like mine - perhaps it's a different angle? :? :?

If fuel pump doesn't solve the problem.........take a look under the drivers seat engine cover. Look at the extreme top right hand side. There is a curved metal pipe junction at the right hand end of the inlet manifold, with a large plastic pipe disappearing off to the front of the vehicle. Check this pipe is firmly connected as it sounds as if it isn't! Also there is a little rubber pipe going off this junction too.....you will get similar symptoms if this isn't fixed on properly.

Good luck....Rob

The garage think it is a auto gearbox problem. They think its slipping. The gear changes are not happening in a steady pattern. Anybody had similar problems or recommend a place in the newcastle or Northumberland area that deals with Auto boxes

been posts on here before about similiar problems...which were cured by changing the automatic tranmission fluid and cleaning the internal filters .....worth a try before you strip the whole box....

I would have thought that, if the gearbox is "slipping", your revs would be a lot higher. However, as this is my first automatic vehicle, I assume someone with more knowledge will answer.
