Does my ABS look big in this.?

Post by Bongolian » Mon Jul 28, 2025 9:30 pm

Dreaded ABS lights appeared nicely in time for my MOT.

Had a check of the connectors, wow aren’t they a pain to access, no joy there so took the wheels off to check and clean everything. All looked good but no joy, light still on.

Plugged in a loop in the diagnostic port and identified a fault with both front ABS sensors, 11 & 12, so set about to remove them and source replacements.
Obviously, the bolt holding the sensor sheared off, so drilled, drilled some more and managed to extract the sheared bolt, and then the sensor, then re-tapped the thread and removed the sensor itself (which after a liberal application of freeing oil, was surprisingly easy).
Now busy prepping the removal by ensuring the remaining bolts are not such a pain.
Found a couple of potential replacements, may go with the ‘expensive’ option of those with brackets attached, but at £120 for a pair, that’s still a damn sight cheaper than the originals and they’ll hopefully be a straight swap.we’ll see, will update with progress and review of parts 👍

You can release the connectors by reaching under the metal plate they are clipped to and squeezing the plastic barb/tags together with a pair of pliers, both connectors then pull out and its just a case of separating plug/socket which can be difficult as well!!!!

Thanks, I get the impression the Bongos may be built by the same Japanese ladies who build the motorcycles.. those with alien-like extra long fingers, super-slim double jointed wrists/hands and incredible strength.
It does make it fun to work on eh..

Sourced my replacement sensors off FleaBay, got a pair with brackets for £88 (after applying the discount code shown). Cheap as chips compared to the Mazda price.
